8TH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING          Barcelona, June 17 – 21 2002

On behalf of AEND (Asociación Española de Ensayos no Destructivos), the society organising the 8th European Conference on NDT, we are honoured to welcome all the members of the NDT family to the first European event organised both in the 21st Century and in the "Euro era" by the recently constituted EFNDT (European Federation for Non-Destructive Testing).

The 8th European Conference will be a major event for the European and International NDT communities. The profile of the conference will ensure that delegates and visitors from users, inspection companies and research and development groups will get the opportunity to meet in Barcelona. The technical and scientific programme will include sessions with oral presentation and posters on developments in NDT methods and equipment, and highlight the application of NDT in a large number of important industrial sectors. Also a video festival with NDT topics will be arranged.

ON BARCELONA

Barcelona’s personality reflects an ever-changing multifarious image, which is based upon a social mosaic constructed during a two thousand-year historical process that has made the city unique. Barcelona’s ancient past is projected into its present through its buildings and streets. This, in turn, accounts for its rich cultural and artistic heritage. In the 19th Century, Barcelona’s fabulously well-structured layout designed by Lesseps contributed to the spreading of the already flourishing Modernist architecture in the city. This 19th Century heritage, still one of the best preserved in the world, will be celebrated in 2002 with the 150th birth Anniversary of Antonio Gaudi, the outstanding Modernist architect. With the 1992 Olympic Games, Barcelona carried out widespread modernisation which, combined with its well-kept appearance, renewed its international image enhancing the city’s presence on the international scene.

CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION VENUE

The Conference and Exhibition will take place at the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona, situated inside the city, close to Plaça Espanya, at the foot of Montjuïch Mountain. The modern underground, bus and rail network provide easy connections from the Congress Centre to the airport (20 minutes) as well as to all parts of Barcelona.
